Many times when DH is nugget hunting I go my own way, looking for trinkets and bits of the past left by earlier gold prospectors. There are small run down mining camps, mostly tent camps scattered about and the way to find them is to look for the trash dumps. It takes lots of patience to hunt these areas because of the trash and broken glass.
I`ve found tiny cast iron toy trucks with the rubber tires still intact. Lots of bobby and hair pins which show that there were many women in this hostile environment. I found old compacts and lipstick cases. The kind you pushed the lipstick up the tube with a metal slid, most of them Helena Rubenstein. That liptick that lasted forever. LOL There are pieces of restaurant china and high end china. Sometimes I save the larger pieces because they are lovely. The silverware in the pictures is (was) silver plate. What`s left now is the brass. The middle bent spoon is marked Wm. Rogers Hotel Plate, Silver Plate Oneida Inc. The fork is ELW Silver Plate , the bottom spoon is Wallco Silver Plate. It`s interesting many folks traveled with their best china and silver. I`ve also found intact bottles. From perfume bottles to mayo, ketchup and relish. I find these things on private property with permission of the owner. I know these items are the ordinary, humdrum items of daily life, but that`s what I have the greatest fondness for.
Thank you for visiting and I hope the weather is cooling for everyone!
