When It`s Hot, Shop!

Coconino Plateau Moon

Now this is a moon!

Hello! My son and DIL took these pictures from camp at their property near Williams AZ. I am so happy he shared them with me.

It`s been very hot and very humid. Unusual weather for us. My sewing room is on the east side of the house. Too warm in the morning and then very humid past noon. We have air conditioning but I try to be frugal with it. When it`s 114 outside that`s hard to do. Yesterday we took a break, headed to town for a nice lunch at Chili`s. Thank you son and daughter in law for the gift card. After that we visited my favorite thrift shop and I bought five new shirts, they are Land`s End and Sears, for $5.00. I always check out the Pyrex, china, vintage sheets and aprons. Not much of that yesterday. It`s still humid today and a little over 100 at 9:30 this morning. Rabbits and birds are always here for water.

That`s all for today. Have to make a late breakfast for hubby.

About That Header and More Pictures

Hello and welcome! Thank you Red, White and Blue Blog Hopper`s for your kind words about my blocks this week. The pictures are in the previous post. There are many more blocks to see, just click the RWB link in my sidebar. There is a Master Schedule at that link  so you can see all the blocks already displayed by these creative people.

I have had lots of questions about this picture that was my header for a few weeks. This is a one room building dug into the ground.  It is well built. The front door is on the left. There is a small screen above the door that is the width of the door. The back wall is to the right and we could see there had been a stove there. Those tall posts on the side are part of a wall. The walls are cedar which lasts a very long time and they are still holding back the dirt. This building was likely cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The nails are modern. It may have been a line shack used by the cowboys. Yes, there are still working cowboys. There are rocks laid out in the front. Perhaps there was a garden. That would be a woman`s touch? Fascinating.

More pictures of the Coconino Plateau. My son and daughter in law took the pictures  from inside their truck and they are a bit bright as it was about 5 P:M. They drove the roads around their property and this is what they shared with me.
Antelope grazing. Cedars and scrub oak are prevalent.

A few antelope to the right. This is a beautiful view isn`t it?

They see the donkey often. Notice the railroad in the background. This is  where we parked our car and the kids picked us up. The roads are passable by truck, a little rough on cars.

Javalina. Keep your distance.

 Wild Horses.

and their friends

Beautiful, aren`t they? They have a difficult life.
My daughter in law makes fantastic meals in her dutch oven. This is.the makings for cheese steak sandwiches. Notice the parchment paper. No clean-up. She made pizza the day before in the pot and they decided it was the best ever.

A young elk. The bull is somewhere back in the trees.

There are a couple of new lightening caused fires today. At least one on the Hualapai reservation again. It`s humid, that should help. I hope you enjoyed your visit.

A Day On The Coconino Plateau

Happy Fourth Of July! Let us remember the hard work of early American citizens that gave birth to our nation, and I thank  military personnel today who gave and continue to give so much to keep us safe.

We celebrated early, spending a day with our son and daughter in law at their high country property near Williams, AZ. My daughter in law cooked a beautiful lunch outdoors in her dutch oven. I didn`t think to take a picture. It was delicious! We hiked, found beautiful scenery and quiet places.

This was a major trade route for the Hopi, Navajo, Havasupai and other tribes . There are signs they used the area heavily. Nearby Grand Canyon was no stranger to the Indians. They  lead the Spanish to Grand Canyon who thought the area was useless. Gold was the Spanish goal.

An ancient cedar, it`s roots wrapped around and under the boulders. There are also beautiful young pines. New growth after fire.

My son and daughter in law. Part of their land is covered with huge rocks and open spaces. There are also tightly packed mature, tall cedars and young pines..

A building built in the ground.  The nails are modern so it`s not real old. It was well built. The walls are still holding the dirt back.

This beautiful stone building is on the Historic Register. The land was a pig farm. The building has not been torn to pieces which is wonderful. My son, DIL and husband looking around.

Me and hubby. Dusty, sunburned, windblown and very happy. We had so much fun.

The kids live south of us on the border, we live in the northern desert. We appreciated the cooler weather and the light rain. Even opened the truck windows so we could feel the rain and enjoy the fresh smell. There were lots of deer and elk. It was a beautiful day.

Thank you for visiting and have a safe happy holiday!
