Welcome!

Thank you to Madam Samm and Joan at Moose Stash Quilting . Both ladies abound with joyful encouragement and support.  I have seen beautiful projects during this Hop. I hope you visit all the participants.

My projects are a very dotty wall hanging and snack mat. The red orange paisley fabric is from my stash.  I usually sew with bright primary colors. This was a change and I grew fond of these prints.  

Both items are lined with warm and natural batting. They are crinkled because I chose not to pre-wash the batting. I like the effect.  I will be ordering more of this fabric to make a small remembrance quilt honoring my sister. That girl loved her coffee! I will be using the prints in my photo plus the red and border fabrics.

Ah, my day!



 Thank you Marlene, our cheerleader from  Stitchin` By The lake and Madam Samm at Sew We Quilt , the creator of  this Hop. Here is a quickie rundown of the rules. The plan is to make a gift able to be completed in a few hours.  Each participant sends a gift to the Hop member whose name is below our name on the list and receives a gift from another member whose name is above ours..  We also have the option of providing our ideas for easy, quick to make and not too expensive gifts. It`s been fun seeing presents sent, presents received and project ideas provided by our participants.

I made lots of small presents for my family,. Here are a couple of hot pad/ mug rugs I made for a neighbor. I can`t post any gifts because they must remain a secret!.

My friend is from the midwest. She loved the Americana style fabric I chose. It reminded her of home.

Cold, wet and windy here today. We are snug and warm so no big deal. Snow is falling in Flagstaff getting their ski season off to a good start.There may be a light snow on the cliffs behind my house later. Pretty cool view from my bedroom window.

The Sew & Show Blog. The Door To Blog Hops.

Hi, I`m popping in again. I`ve been so busy with my husband I havn`t had the time I promised you. Wish I had some autumn pictures to share, but no changing leaves here The cactus is always green. Tourist traffic has been heavy with the closure of Grand Canyon and many folks are coming here to see the Skywalk. It`s on the reservation, not in the national park. The Skywalk is open for business.

I was  new to blog hops and never shared a project online before, sort of on the shy side. I was hooked after my first hop and they can be habit forming. HO HO HO Blog Hop! My Day!

Hello! It`s my day to share my HO HO HO Blog Hop project. Thank you Madam Samm for your genius in creating these Hops and thank you Carol for being our outstanding Cheerleader! I am happy to be able to participate.

My project is a table topper. I used Moda`s Blitzen charm squares. The backing is a red cotton Christmas holly print from my stash.

Thanks to Madame Samm for creating this fun Hop and to Thearica for keeping all us chickens moving in the right direction.

 
This Poodle is cross stitched on a vintage gingham apron.  I purchased the apron five years ago. After repairing the stitching and the open work I set the apron aside. When I stumbled on her again I knew a few pom poms would be cute.  I made them with Coats Pearl Cotton, wrapping the thread around my fingers.

Shake Your Pom Poms!

Shake Your Pom Poms, the next blog hop starts this week, Wednesday 24 April.  My day is the 30th. I can`t wait to see the other participants pom pom creations. I`m just about finished with my projects. When I was young  pom poms were a big part of home decor.

Madame Samm is again the creator of our blog hop and Thearica from Pigtales and Quilts is our fabulous cheerleader. Can`t go wrong with these ladies.

My Day April Showers Mug Rug Blog Hop!

This is my day on the April Showers Blog Hop.  I can`t wait to see what today`s other participants will  share !  We are making mug rugs with an April Showers theme.

Madame Samm is our gracious hostess and  Erin at Sew At Home Mummy is our hardworking cheerleader.  Giveaways and tutorials are offered by some participants. Please visit the blogs listed below my pictures. There are wonderous mug rugs waiting for you!

Here we are in the tree again, LOL. My mug rug is 10" x 8". A gift for my daughter in law and roomy for her desk. The front is made with 100% cotton vintage reproduction fabric purchased at Jane`s Fabrics. The pattern name is Bee`s Knees by Glenna Hailey. The trim is vintage cotton eyelet fussy cut from a doily in my stash.   April showers in  high desert bring wildflowers and then a bounty of bees.  This fabric pretty much expresses our April and blue is DIL`s favorite color.

The reverse is a 100% cotton tropical flower print. I love the bright colors and the palm fronds. Palm trees are easily grown here though in winter the smaller palms sometimes need cover. Date palms are prevalent south of us in places like Havasu, Parker and Yuma and of course in Phoenix.

What have I been doing? Lots of sewing, trying to keep dust out of the house, gardening and yard work. I have an unbelievable amount of lilacs. Stitch Me Up Blog Hop! My Day!

Welcome to this marvelous Hop. Thank you  to Debbie at Busy As Can Be and Cyndi at Stitch Stitch Stitch and Madame Samm at Sew We Quilt for designing our patterns. A huge thanks to our fearless cheerleader Jane at Jane`s Fabrics and Quilts.

 I decided to stitch Madame Samm`s "Wee Tot".  This little cutie was "put through the mill"  , so to speak. I have a twin and this is very much how we looked at the toddler stage. Blonde curls and chubby legs. I am going to reverse the pattern and stitch it for my sister so we each have one.

I used DMC floss from my stash and embroidered on cotton. Next time I will use linen. The first time I stitched this sweetie I lined her eyes with pale pink. Looked like she had  pink eye, so I unstitched the pink. Then I added a little pink stitching to her left cheek. My husband said it looked like a pirate scar (well!!!), so I removed that. Her mouth had a sad pout, so that had to go and I changed her eye shape a little. She looked she was ready to burst into tears. More unstitching and I went back to Mdm. Samm`s original design. Teal and red are my favorite vintage colors so I had to put them in the dress. The picture was taken outside behind the clothesline, a little bright. I waited till the last minute. The best natural light was gone. Then a bird pooped on my head and that was it for me! I`m going to add Miss Tot to a pillow cover and then embroider Little Boy Tot.

It`s Lilac Time!

The Nancy Drew Blog Hop is over. The participants created fantastic projects that can be viewed  at  Madame Samm`s Pinterest Blog Hop Boards.

The next Hop coming up is Stitch Me Up. It starts Wednesday, March 20. I believe my day is March 28 and I am very excited.  Embroidery, applique, who knows what the ladies will come up with. Click the picture below for more information.

    Spring is really here! The lilacs are in bud and should bloom in a few days. How about that desert yard! This is high desert so there is vegetation. Joshua`s , wild sage, arugula growing everywhere and crab grass. Can`t get away from crab grass. Temperatures are  80 degrees plus. Windows open and ceiling fans on. Love it!


I laid under the Joshua Tree to take the next picture. No snakes slithering around yet. Just a couple of lizards. Anyway, you can see the large green closed bud on the bottom branch. Just above are buds that opened a day or two ago. Boy, are they pungent!! Way too sweet smelling for me and not great if you are allergic. They`ll be attracting bees soon.

Nancy Drew Blog Hop. My Day!

Welcome to my blog! It`s my day to share my project featuring Nancy Drew. Most of us of a certain age have read the Nancy Drew Mysteries or watched the movies. I want to thank Madam Samm , the phenom with the great Blog Hop imagination and Carol from Just Let Me Quilt, our fabulous coordinator.

The Nancy Drew fabrics are Moda. I used  charm pack squares for the front and back of my bag. The bag bottom is made with yardage from my stash. It has that "dark and stormy night look" and I thought it fit in with the theme. The straps and interior are made with Nancy Drew red yardage . The bag measures 12" x 12" and the straps are 22 inches.

A Nancy Drew Sneak Peek and Life In General

These are a few of the fabrics I`ll be using for my Nancy Drew Blog Hop projects. It took me a while to decide what to sew. I had a hard time making up my mind. I can`t say what my projects are except that I`m using Nancy Drew charm squares and fabrics from my stash. I spent many an afternoon watching Nancy Drew movies when I was younger. She had a boyfriend. I think his name was Tom. Correct me if I`m wrong!

The charm squares are Moda. I love them!

A few more Diamond Bar cows wandering by looking for water. Mostly young ones.  

I made a new friend, a lovely lady from the mid-west. She and her husband are thinking about moving here. We had a bit of warm weather last week and spent a little time sitting in the sun and enjoying the quiet. Later that week we went to our library, it`s more of an annex, and then had lunch. I seldom do lunch or the library. I had a fantastic time. She is also a sewist and quilts for her church. We are remote and not everyone can deal with the long driving distances to shop and see the doctor. I hope it works out for them.
My son sees his orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to get the results of his last MRI. We are praying he won`t need a second back surgery. That one would be more invasive. I haven`t blogged because this has been on my mind. I wasn`t sewing. I sat down at the machine two days ago. It was calming and refreshing. I know you understand.

Time to go. Housework is calling but that`s going to wait till after my hour or two of sewing.

A New Blog Hop and A Few Bullish Visitors!

A New Blog Hop Is Coming!

Our Hoppers will be incorporating Hearts in our sewing projects. A lovely thought. Lots of  red and pink hearts, a bit of lace perhaps? I have two projects in mind. I hope to start them today!

Well, looks like Diamond Bar aka Grand Canyon Ranch has had a few cows fly the coop. They are looking for water and we gently scooted them off the acreage. They move slowly, but they move. They tore up hubby`s mining equipment two days ago because there was a stock tank full of water, albeit frozen, under a recirculator. No cowboys have made an appearance yet, so I will make a few calls today. My neighbor called a few days ago, but no help has arrived. These aren`t range cattle. They run around at the ranch to keep the dudes happy experiencing a bit of the old west. There were 20 plus cows here day before yesterday. I just want them off the roads and safe.

The bottom picture is dark. I apologize. Just the late afternoon lack of light. This is where they were getting a drink. There were a lot of bulls and I don`t advise you to walk behind them or near them as they are unpredictable. We`re used to them being around. Fence off what you don`t want them to eat. My neighbors were assisting me in moving the cows.

No sewing pictures today. Our water was frozen for three days. I was not in the mood to sew. I wanted a shower!! Thank you for visiting. I appreciate it.

Day Five In Your Words Blog Hop

It`s almost noon and the temps are still below freezing. Canada can have their weather back any time, lol. We keep the house chilly to save on the cost of propane. I should be wearing double layers of clothes by supper time. Made peanut butter cookies this morning and dog biscuits yesterday to warm the downstairs. The mountain just to the left is Garnet Mountain. There`s a garnet mine up there somewhere.  Our high tomorrow will be 35 with rain or snow. We always need moisture so I shouldn`t complain. I haven`t done any sewing. Most of my time I`ve been cleaning up the sewing room, never enough space  and I`m gathering items to donate to the thrift shop. Long ago collected china and linens on their way to new homes. I put aside a few cups and saucers. Sometimes nothing will do like a vintage china cup. Sort of makes my tea (or coffee) time extra special.

Quilting Secrets Blog Hop Coming Soon!

A reminder that the Quilting Secrets Blog Hop starts Monday, January 31st. A seven day hop where seven experienced quilting bloggers will let us in on their quilting secrets. I`ll be there! Come join us. Thank you Mrs Pickles for your great idea!

Our Christmas was very nice. My son and daughter in law sent us the greatest box of homemade cookies. We like gifts from the heart. Thank you Chris and Catie! No pictures, cookies eaten.

Very cold  at night. In the low 20`s. Jack put a light next to the water pump in the water shed to keep things from freezing. We haul our water. There`s a 2,000 gallon tank in the shed. The tank doesn`t freeze but sometimes the pump will. I still keep water set aside for the way below zero nights to flush toilets and I set pans on the stove for cooking. We did get to -11 some years ago. We were living in our tent camper at the time and had no clue how cold it really was. A  few days later when it warmed up frozen pipes in the homes down the road broke and the streets were covered in water. Most of the houses were owned by snowbirds and they didn`t know till spring what happened unless there was a friend watching the house. It was a mess.

Winter Stories and a Blog Hop

Hayley at Mrs Pickle`s Garden is  hosting The Quilting Secrets Blog Hop December 31st through January 6. This is a great idea!

Six quilters will share secrets that make their quilting experience easier and more fun. I could use a few time saving secrets and tips.
More Hops are on my sidebar. Participating in Hops more than advances my skills. The fellowship and sharing among other quilters is amazing. It`s nice to stretch yourself once in a while!
Cold here now. Temperatures are in the 20`s at night, two nights there was no heat. We`re all set up now.  When we first moved here we lived in our tent camper. It was a big Coleman, shower and everyting but no  heater. It was an option we did not choose, bad move. We moved from `Vegas to the high desert not realizing how cold the winter nights are. We had plenty of blankets, 3 cats and a big Samoyed.  The cats slept in our beds and everybody benefited. When my son was cold the Samoyed was like a huge furry blanket. We would tell him to put on the dog and he did, literally! A win, win. Cooking warmed the tent in the morning. I baked bread and cookies in one of those Coleman ovens you use on top of the stove burner. It worked great. 
 The desert cold is nothing like we experienced  in Colorado. We were camped on the Uncompaghre Plateau, on the western slope. 13 below zero the first night.  We slept in a double sleeping bag with our clothes folded in the bottom of the bag. Jack (hubby) cooked breakfast outside and the eggs froze before he could get them past the tent door. haha! Sometime I will tell you about our experience with ball lightening at  11,000 feet. Hello!  The Dots on Dots Blog Hop has ended. It was fun seeing  the blocks of the many 

participants. The fellowship that blooms between these quilters and artists is amazing. The next Hop coming up very soon is Leafs Me Happy sponsored by Madam Samm and hosted by Cherry Blossoms. I am not a participant, but I am taking part in the Wicked Blog Hop later this month.

The fabric in the pictures below was given to me by a neighbor! Happy Day! Some is scraps, some is yardage. More to play with.

How about those Wright`s pink satin trims?   They have that romantic look of 1930`3 - 1940`s boudoirs. Born after 1960? Boudoir is a bedroom or ladies sitting room.

Yesterday was shopping day.  We had to replace our 20 year old Kenmore microwave. Gave it our son 17 years ago and we used it this past year. Our new micro will probably last two years. We drove the back roads to Kingman avoiding the interstate with it`s Las Vegas and Grand Canyon Skywalk traffic. The weather was beautiful.
